Research success of students of the Faculty of Technology at the international competition “3MT”

Ajla Mandalović, a third-year student at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology at the Faculty of Technology, University of Tuzla, won third place in the international competition “3MT” (Bosnia & Herzegovina Futures Foundation, Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Association for the Advancement of Science and technologies) for the presentation (in English) of a research project entitled “Composite materials based on cement with the admixture of waste materials: glass, sheep’s wool and Paulownia wood” (“Composite materials based on cement with admixture of waste materials: glass, sheep wool and Paulownia tree ”).

The “3MT” competition was attended by 46 participants from different fields from different universities around the world, and 167 judges – renowned experts from 30 countries.

Apart from my colleague Mandalović, students of the Faculty of Technology of the University of Tuzla participated in the realization of the research project: Edina Ibrić, Elma Zehić, Haris Glušac, Mediha Biberović, Milica Lukić, Amina Ahmić and Belmin Poljić, all under the mentorship of Dr. sci. Zehrudin Osmanović, full prof.

In the research project, more environmentally friendly materials were used, and it was experimentally determined that the better the insulating material, the higher the proportion of material mixed with cement. Waste accumulation in Bosnia and Herzegovina requires new treatment ideas, and composite materials can serve as a cost-effective solution. Mixtures of cement, glass, wool and Paulownia wood were used in this project with an emphasis on the analysis of the effects on strength, sound transfer, heat transfer and electrical conductivity.

Congratulations to student Ajla Mandalović on winning the 3rd place for the presentation of the research project, as well as other students of the Faculty of Technology who participated in the project (Edina Ibrić, Elma Zehić, Haris Glusac, Mediha Biberović, Milica Lukić, Amina Ahmić and Belmin Poljić) with mentorship Dr. sci. Zehrudin Osmanović, full prof.

We wish them more such successes in the future!
